Thomas Michaels, Psy.D, LMHC

I have been working in the behavioral health field for over 20 years in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient treatment centers, residential substance abuse centers and community-based supports. My theoretical orientation and approach to therapy includes dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and a grounding in psychodynamic therapy. It is critically important to look at the healing process as we work through what brings you to the office.

I’m especially interested in couples therapy. I’ve helped facilitate many relationships moving from unhealthy patterns of intimacy and communication to more loving partnerships. As someone in long-term recovery, with specialized training in motivational interviewing, I bring a unique ability to work with clients in various stages of recovery from addiction. In addition, I have considerable experience working with clients in the LGBTQ+ community. I aim to join with my clients with whatever challenges they are facing. Alone we can’t; together we can.
